  35. The disk included with this application note contains a Microsoft Word
  36. for Windows version 2.0 converter for use with Microsoft Word for
  37. Windows versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.1a. This converter allows customers
  38. using versions of Word for Windows earlier than 2.0 to read documents
  39. created in Word for Windows 2.0.

  41. Installation

  44. To use the Word for Windows 2.0 converter, copy the CONV-WW2.DLL file
  45. from the enclosed GC0545 disk to your Word for Windows 1.x program
  46. directory (usually C:\WINWORD) by inserting the disk in drive A and
  47. typing

  49.    copy a:\conv-ww2.dll <location>
  50.  
  51. where <location> is the path to your Word for Windows 1.x program
  52. directory. For example:

  54.    copy a:\conv-ww2.dll c:\winword
  55.  
  56. The first time you open a Word for Windows 2.0 document in Word for
  57. Windows 1.x, Word automatically installs the Word for Windows 2.0
  58. converter. Word installs the converter by detecting its existence and
  59. adding necessary information to the [Microsoft Word] section of your
  60. WIN.INI file. After a few moments, you will be prompted to open the
  61. document from Word for Windows 2.0 format. Choose the OK button to
  62. open the file. In the future, Word for Windows 1.x will automatically
  63. recognize and prompt you to convert all Word for Windows 2.0 files.

  68. Note that formatting features existing in Word for Windows 2.0 that do
  69. not exist in Word for Windows 1.0, 1.1, or 1.1a (for example, embedded
  70. objects) will not be retained in the conversion.
